Transport Canada isn’t concerned about “Budd Cars” safely operating between Sarnia and London.
In a letter to the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, Rail Safety Director Luc Bourdon says the department has not identified any safety concerns with the operation of this type of equipment as had been sited by CN.
Partnership General Manager George Mallay views the correspondence as encouraging.
In the past, there were concerns the compact rail diesel cars would be unable to activate crossings and signals without a heavy locomotive. But, Transport Canada says technology has evolved since Budd Cars last operated on a CN track. Mallay says they’ve contacted Sarnia-Lambton MP Pat Davidson for help in pursuing further discussion.
