Canada Falls To Australia At WBSC Jr. Men's Softball Worlds

Canada finally suffered a loss at the WBSC Jr. Men's World Softball Championships in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Australia handed them a 2-0 defeat, and their coach Laing Harrow says Canada made it difficult to generate much.

"It was hard to get runners on base, Canada threw a great game against us, but we were able to get that one run in the fourth inning to give ourselves some breathing space. Then obviously that 7th inning, getting an insurance run was a big help."

Aussie pitcher Layton Reid had 16 Ks. Williamsford's Owen Torrie pitched three and a third innings for Canada in relief with one earned run and 4 Ks. Teeswater's Mac Fischer was brought in as a pinch hitter, but struck out. Canada Coach Jeff Ellsworth says the story of Canada's game was missed offensive opportunities.

"We had a couple chances to score early in the 1st and 3rd. I think there were runners on first and third and then second and third, and just coming up big in those situations early with a key hit would have changed the complexion of the game, so we didn't capitalize early."

Canada now plays Argentina in a win or go home game tonight at 5 p.m. EST.
