Patriots Times Two

The Mount Forest Patriots are the Pollock Division champions for the second consecutive season.

The Patriots won 4-1 to clinch the series in six games.

Walkerton opened the scoring in the first period after Justin Donnelly broke in on the breakaway midway through the first.

That lead would hold until the Patriots struck for two goals in an unconventional manner. The first goal came in on a point shot off the stick of Shawn Lantz during a power play at 8:46 of the second period. Then, just over a minute later, Brady Becker scored short handed to give Mount Forest the lead.

Mount Forest forward Klayton Hoelscher gave the Patriots a two goal cushion when he came in on the right wing and stick handled in close and stuffed the puck in between the post and the left skate of Walkerton goal Matthew Donnelly.

In the the third, Michael Stefanelli put the game out of reach at the 13:00 minute mark when he took a pass from Blair Butchart from behind the net and buried it for the 4-1 lead and eventual final score.

Sometime during the first period, Mount Forest goalie David Lobsinger suffered an injury. He finished off the first period but was replaced by Aiden Quish in the second. Quish stopped 15 shots in two periods.

It was the only game of the series that did not go into overtime.

Mount Forest moves on to face Stayner in the Schmalz Cup Quarter-Finals.
