PJHL Prospects Day This Saturday

This Saturday is the PJHL Prospects Day, where the top 16 and 17-year-old players in the league come and compete against each other and represent their divisions.

Wingham Ironmen GM Rob Harrison, who has 4 players attending in New Hamburg this year, says this day is important for new players in the league.

"I think days like this, these prospect games are a great opportunity for the PJHL to show off the talent, and for teams like us to show off the talent we have here in our organization."

The Ironmen will be sending Kyle Stanbury, Jacob Bishop, Parker Gibbings, and Tanner Reid to the tournament, that features 8 divisional-based all-star teams. Harrison says the development aspect is key, but it also does wonders for future recruitment.

"For those players like a Jamie Huber or Derek Elliot, or other players that have been 16-year-olds and moved on, it certainly helps with our recruiting process, too, because they see that we have been able to develop talent for the next level, so again this year having Kyle Stanbury going as a 16-year-old we're looking for great things from him and expect more good things going forward."

Stanbury so far this year has 7 points in 10 games playing on the top line. Parker Gibbings has 5 points in 11 games, Jacob Bishop has 5 in 12 from the blue line, and Tanner Reid, who will play for the PJHL Black team, has no points but has played very well in 8 games. Harrison notes this type of day is great for the organization.

"We're very excited and happy for these 4 players, they've all had phenomenal starts to their PJHL careers. We're lucky to have all 4 in our lineup, and we want to see each of them do very well this weekend."

The day gets underway at Wilmot Rec Complex at 10:30am, with adults getting in for 8 dollars, students and seniors for 7, and public school kids for 5. There will also be a 50/50 draw and silent auction.
