Attack Rebounds, Beats Spitfires 4-1

The Owen Sound Attack overcame their first pointless game since early December with a 4-1 over the Windsor Spitfires at Bayshore Community Centre.

Nick Suzuki scored twice for the Attack, who had their lengthy point streak snapped against London Friday night.  With the win, Owen Sound is in third place with 66 points in the OHL Midwest Division.  Windsor, meanwhile, was unable to take advantage of a Sault Ste. Marie loss Saturday and remains tied with the Hounds for first in the West Division with 71 points.

Gabriel Vilardi broke a scoreless tie at 7:20 in the first period, on an unassisted wraparound goal, his 19th score of the season.  Owen Sound answered right back 17 seconds later with a tally from Nick Suzuki, his 24th of the year.  The Spitfires had three men go to the penalty box in the period but was able to kill each penalty off.

It would not be long in the second period before the Attack broke the 1-1 tie.  Jonah Gadjovich put Owen Sound ahead 2-1 at just 38 seconds into the stanza.  Later in the period, Windsor's Tyler Nother would get sent to the box on an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and the Attack capitalized with a Kevin Hancock lamplighter, extending their lead to 3-1.

The score remained as such until there was 1:09 left in regulation.  Windsor goalie Michael DiPietro was pulled and Suzuki put his second goal of the night in the empty net.

DiPietro had 39 saves for the Spitfires while winning Owen Sound goalie Michael McNiven stopped all but one of 26 Windsor shots.

The Attack heads to Hamilton Wednesday for a rare morning contest, there will be a 10:30am puck drop.  The Spitfires return home Thursday night and host the Oshawa Generals.
