Brussels Native Submits Hockeyville Nomination

A Brussels native has put forth a submission for the town to be named the 2016 Kraft Hockeyville winner.

Olivia McArter, currently a student at Niagara College and studying Sports Management, says she wanted to nominate her town because she feels they would be a deserving recipient and are in need of the distinction.

Kraft Hockeyville comes with a $100,000 arena upgrade, something McArter says is badly needed in Brussels.

"When we have girls teams come play, or even our local girls teams, we don't have a room for them, so the need to go in the skate sharpening room to change. The exisitng dressing rooms are very small, and our washroom facilities really need an upgrade. Also, our sound booth is really outdated and I'm not even sure it works anymore. Our seating is also old and only seats maybe 250 people, but whenever we host a big playoff game at any level, its always pretty full."

McArter also was asked which two teams she would like to see play in her local rink, as winning Kraft Hockeyville also comes with the right to host an NHL preseason game.

"Well the Leafs, obviously, as I'm a huge Leafs fan, always have been and always will be. Also, I think having the Chicago Blackhawks in town to play the Leafs would be really awesome at the Brussels Arena."

The submissions for Kraft Hockeyville are open until February 7th, with the 10 finalists for fan voting announced March 5th.
