Hurricanes Stronger Than Cyclones, OHA Wrap

The Listowel Cyclones had outscored Guelph 15-1 going into their third meeting of the season.

This time the Hurricanes found a way to score and score often. The visiting team took a 2-0 lead before the midway point of the first period. They added a third goal before Listowel could crack the scoreboard. Cyclones' forward Jordan Caskenette was able to put a rebound top corner blocker side on Guelph goalie Christian Propp.

Listowel was able to chip away at the Guelph lead in the second period and took a 4-3 lead at the 7:18 mark when Holdyn Lansink blocked a pass in the Hurricanes zone and found a charging Blake Pickering who tucked it in for the one goal lead.

But Guelph mounted a counter attack and was rewarded with two goals 39 seconds apart just over two minutes later, regained the lead and never looked back.

Listowel had chances, putting 43 shots on net but Propp tightened up his game after giving up a fourth goal in the second period and rarely let out a rebound after that.

The win moves Guelph to within 2 points of third place Listowel.

Both teams have more games this weekend with Listowel on the road in Waterloo on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and Guelph hosts Kitchener Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
