Exeter Hawks Win SOJHL Championship

The Exeter Hawks are the 2014-15 SOJHL Champions after beating Dorchester 8-1 in game 4. Exeter sweeps the series to capture their first title since the Hawks made the switch from Junior D.

It was a dominant performance from start to finish. The Hawks outshot the Dolphins 47-21 in the contest and opened the 1st period with 4 unanswered goals. Liam Melady, Cody Perriam, Tyler McNaugton and Max Naus got credit for single markers.

Dorchester would find the board on the power play in the second period before Perriam put away his second goal of the night. Chris Pfaff would add a goal for a 6-1 Exeter lead into the final period.

League leading scorer Chase Thornton would find the net in the third with a breakaway score. A 2 point night gives him a final tally of 33 points in 12 SOJHL playoff games. Later on Tyler Coleman would wrap up the scoring for an 8-1 final.

Exeter's last title came in 2004 when the side played in the former Western Ontario Junior D league. It is the 8th league championship the franchises history.

Despite a title, the season is far from over. The Hawks now take on the champions of the Great Lakes Junior C league in the Clarence Schmalz Cup quarter finals. That series continues this weekend with game 6 between the Essex 73's and the Amherstburg Admirals
