Rob Hellyer Takes Over NLL Scoring Race, Named Player of the Month

After scoring 11 points in one game on Friday, Lion's Head-native Rob Hellyer is now the National Lacrosse League's leading scorer so far this season.

In the Toronto Rock's 17-9 win over Colorado, Hellyer had three goals and eight assists to put him at 71 points in just 10 games this season.

Heading into the week, teammate Derek Sanderson held a two point lead in the scoring race. He had only four points on Friday, allowing Hellyer to leapfrog his teammate and take a firm grip as the NLL's top scorer.

This comes after Hellyer was named NLL Player of the Month for February after scoring 29 points in four games.

While stealing the spotlight, Hellyer wasn't the only local on the winning Rock side. Kasey Beirnes of Elora had a 3 point night while Arthur's Rob Marshall(a defenseman) was held off the scoresheet.

On the other side, Owen Sound's Adam Jones had 3 points in a losing effort.
