Round 1 of GMHL Playoffs Start

Meaford and Grey Highlands will be home to some GMHL playoff action this week as round 1 begins today. Both teams play at home tomorrow.

The Knights of Meaford come in after a 3-0  win in a one-off game with Bracebridge. Meaford hosts the South Muskoka Sheild Thursday for game 1 of the best of 5 series. The Sheild come in the favourites after finishing second in the North Division and outscored Meaford 21-2 in the season series. Meaford will look to local star Mackenzie Fleming to give them a chance. The forward has 30 points in 16 games since rejoining the team midway through the season. Following game 1 the series shifts to Gravenhurst for games 2 and 3.

Over in Markdale, the Grey Highlands Bravehearts will open up a series with the Rama Aces. The Bravhearts finished the year with an 18-21-3 record, good enough for 5th in the North. Rama finished one place ahead of the Bravehearts and took the season series with 4 wins and outscored them 18-13. Starring for Grey Highlands is American Cameron Pfeiffer who had 75 points in 42 games. This month the Bravehearts made waves with a 20-2 victory over Bracebridge to end the regular season.

The GMHL enters the 2014-15 Russell Cup Playoffs with all 22 teams. There are four divisions & two conferences based on geographical alignment: Meaford and Grey Highlands will are competing in the North Central Division.
