Dekoning and MacDermid Capping Off Strong 2014 in Erie

While Connor McDavid and Dylan Strome hold the spotlight in Erie, a pair of locals have been on their own roll with the Otters. Listowel goalie Daniel Dekoning and Sauble Beach defensemen Kurtis MacDermid have two more games left before the new year after a strong start in 2014.

Dekoning came into the season after a 2013-14 campaign with his hometown Listowel Cyclones. He started this season as a backup but has carried the load in December with partner Devin Williams nursing an injury.

With 17 appearances so far this season, Deckoning sits 12th among all OHL goaltenders. He posted a record of 11 wins and 2 losses with a shootout loss and a 3.03 Goals Against Average.

This past weekend Dekoning made 30 saves in a 6-5 win over Niagara and was a part of a 4-3 overtime loss to Guelph.

It has been a career year for Sauble Beach native Kurtis MacDermid. The overage defenseman has matched his career high of 17 points with many games remaining in the season.

In his second year with the Otters - starting his OHL career with the Owen Sound Attack - Macdermid has been a part of the Otters defense that has allowed an average of less than three goals a game.

Brother of former NHL'er Lane and son of 14 year pro Paul, the former Grey-Bruce Highlander is looking to follow in those footsteps.
