Listowel Rink Back On Ice For Canadian Open

Team Flaxey comes off a trip to the Canada Cup with a loss to open the latest Grand Slam event.  The Canadian Open started Tuesday in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Team Flaxey would fall 7-6 to Team Sweeting today.

The Grand Slam Masters Champ, Sweeting opened with two in the second end and added three in the third and one in the fourth for an early 6-0 lead.

Team Flaxey would respond in the fifth with a triple to narrow the lead to 6-3.

From there the sides would trade single scores in the sixth and seventh.

In the final end team Flaxey came close by taking two in the final end but would not be enough to catch Sweeting.

Curling out of the Listowel Curling Club, the team skipped by Allison Flaxey comes into Yorkton on a winning note. They took their last game at the Canada Cup 6-4 over Heather Nedohin.

The win is the second in less than a week for Sweeting over Flaxey. They won 8-5 at the Canada Cup last Friday.

About the tournament: The Canadian Open hosts 16 men's and 16 women's teams in a triple knockout competition.

All teams start in Pool A brackets. Losing teams drop to  Pool B and teams that fall in Pool B games are then moved into the Pool C bracket. Teams that lose in Pool C are eliminated from playoff contention.

Two teams from Pool A, three teams from Pool B and three teams from Pool C qualify for the single-elimination playoff round to determine the champion.
