Driver seen with baby in arms while smoking cigarette

A Georgian Bluffs grandmother is in trouble with police after allegedly driving in downtown Owen Sound with a baby in her arms while smoking a cigarette.

The Owen Sound Police Service said on Tuesday around 11 a.m., a citizen report about the woman led officers to pull over a vehicle in the area of 1st Avenue West. Child and Family Services also attended the scene to assist in the investigation.

A one-year-old was found to be sitting on the centre console in the vehicle and a three-year-old was also found unbuckled in the front passenger seat. As well, there were no child safety seats in the vehicle.

As a result, a 67-year-old Georgian Bluffs woman has been issued eight tickets under the Highway Traffic Act and Smoke Free Ontario Act with fines totalling $1,445.

The children were safely taken home by Grey Bruce Child and Family Services.
