Owen Sound Treats Trees For Emerald Ash Borer

Owen Sound will resume Emerald Ash Borer treatments on trees within city limits.

The tree-killing beetle has not yet been detected in Owen Sound but has been found in neighbouring municipalities.

Signs the invasive pest has infested an ash tree include defoliation at the crown and D shaped entry holes in the trunk.

City workers will be inoculating 70 trees following a 2015 tree inventory.

The city cannot treat all of the ash trees, so the most prominent trees have been selected in parks, along streets, or in ash groves.

The biopesticide is injected right into the tree, and there is no potential harm to residents
