Collision Results In Multiple Charges

A Tara man is facing numerous charges after a weekend collision.

The incident began around 3am Saturday. An Owen Sound resident was awakened by the sound of a crash on 8th St. W near 3rd Ave. W. He told police he looked out his window and saw a vehicle that had made contact with another that was parked in a residential laneway. The driver was seen leaving the scene.

Owen Sound officers found the suspect about a block from the scene. The man tried to flee by running through several backyards and even hiding in a garbage dumpster before being taken into custody.

The 23-year-old man is now charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol in 100mm of blood. He is also accused of fleeing lawful custody, failure to report an accident and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

The suspect is expected to appear in court later this month.

Further investigation of the incident revealed that the vehicle was being driven on westbound 8th St. W and into a retaining wall located at the base of a cat walk at 3rd Ave. W. The disabled vehicle was then turned eastbound where it rolled into the laneway and collided with the other vehicle, police say.
