UPDATE: Heat Warning In Effect For Parts Of Huron and Perth

Parts of Midwestern Ontario are under a blanket of heat for this Father's Day weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the weekend in southern Perth and southern Huron Counties. This includes Stratford, Mitchell, Goderich and Bluewater.

In addition, a special weather statement has been issued for the following regions:

  • Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory
  • Hanover - Dundalk - Southern Grey County
  • Owen Sound - Blue Mountains - Northern Grey County
  • Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - Southern Bruce County
The weather agency says humidex levels could reach 40 C. A warm front is expected to bring a southwesterly flow of hot and humid air over the region. Daytime highs near 31 degrees and low temperatures near 21 degrees are likely on Sunday and Monday. Little night time relief from the heat is expected.

Environment Canada is reminding everyone that extreme heat can have a particularly negative impact on young children, the elderly, pregnant women, people suffering from chronic conditions and those who must work or exercise outdoors for long periods of time.

Never leave pets or people inside a parked vehicle during a heat wave, even with the windows down and even for just a couple of minutes.
