UPDATE: House Fire In Gorrie

Updated at 4:20pm.

Working smoke alarms helped alert everyone to get out of a house in Gorrie after a fire broke out on Friday.

The fire started in a new addition at the rear of a two storey home at the intersection of Edward St. and Maitland St. South.

Howick firefighters were called to the scene around 8am and additional fire crews were then called in from North Huron.

All five people who were in the home made it out safe.

According to Howick Fire Chief Shawn Edwards, the cause of the fire is undetermined because of the extensive damage. He adds that the house is considered as a total loss.
