Victim Identified After Fatal Crash Near Exeter

An 86-year-old Exeter man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the weekend.

Just before 8pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018, Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and personnel from the South Huron Fire Department responded to the collision scene located at the intersection of Thames Rd. E and Morrison Line just east of Exeter.

Upon arrival police located two involved vehicles and three involved occupants from the collision.

The preliminary investigation has determined the driver of a Kia Rondo was travelling southbound on Morrison Line whereupon he encountered a stop sign at the intersection of Morrison Line and Thames Rd. E. It is believed the driver of the Kia stopped at the stop sign however he then failed to yield and entered into the path of a minivan that was travelling westbound on Thames Rd. E.

A collision ensued which resulted in the two occupants of the mini-van being transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both have since been released from the hospital.

The driver of the Kia Rondo was also transported to hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as 86-year-old Lambert Branderhorst from Exeter.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Monday.

Investigators from the West Region OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation.
