Monkton Ready For Paralympic Excitement

Monkton native Corbyn Smith has a chance for a gold medal when Canada's Paralympic hockey team faces the US this weekend.

The game will be 11pm Eastern Saturday and the village of Monkton will be ready.

The Lion's Club is hosting a community party at the arena with the game to be shown inside and outside, projected onto a wall.

Lion's member Amber Schalk says it was a good night Wednesday for the semi-final.

"So we had about 100 or so people that came out to the arena to watch," said Schalk. "Lots of Team Canada jerseys, and attire. We had a good night cheering him on."

Mix in wings and fries on Saturday night and you have a recipe for a celebration. Doors open at 8 p.m. Saturday at the arena in Monkton.

"Right from when he [Smith] was 5, seeing him out on the ice was pretty exciting," said Schalk.
