North Huron To Discuss Police Motion

A policing issue is on North Huron's agenda Monday night.

At this point, there are two motions being proposed. One is to accept a revised OPP offer to take over policing in Wingham and the other is to maintain the Wingham Police Service.

A revised OPP offer was completed on March 1. In that revised report, it shows a start-up cost of just over $206,000 which includes, two patrol cars, firearms and uniforms. Beyond that, the annual cost sits at $1.2-million for the Wingham Ward.

A petition has circulated in Wingham wanting North Huron to stick with a town force while there have been calls from Blyth and East Wawanosh to stay with the OPP and not move to an expanded force.

Tonight's council meeting starts at 7pm at North Huron's council chambers in Wingham.
