Grand River Conservation Issues Flood Watch

There's a flood watch in effect for the entire Grand River watershed, with flood warnings south of Kitchener

The conservation authority says a warm front will arrive Monday and persist through Wednesday of next week.

About 40 mm of rain is forecast for early next week, with temperatures expected to reach 6 C by Monday, and 12 C on Tuesday. That combination is expected to trigger moderate runoff into the river system. That combined with snow melt will lead to elevated river flows across the watershed.

Minor flooding is expected in low lying flood prone regions.

River ice could break up, and cause ice jams, especially in Conestogo, Cambridge, Brantford, and Cayuga.

The major reservoirs at Belwood, Conestogo, Guelph, Luther, Woolwich, Laurel, and Shades are at low winter holding levels and have storage available to manage runoff from this event.
