Damage From Owen Sound Fire Estimated at $300,000

A Sunday morning fire at a downtown Owen Sound restaurant caused up to $300,000 in damage.

The Owen Sound Fire Department arrived on scene around 6:30am Sunday. The business is located on 10th St E near 2nd Ave E.

Investigators say the blaze was confined to the kitchen area.

Fire Chief Doug Barfoot says structural damage is between $75,000 and $100,000, though damage to the contents is estimated at an additional $200,000.

Three people, including two police officers, were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation and released. There were no other injuries.

Ten people living in apartments above the restaurant were evacuated. All were able to return to their units except one, who was going to stay with a friend until the all-clear was given. The Canadian Red Cross was on hand to help those affected by the fire and a nearby convenience store served as a warming centre.

The cause has not yet been determined, though fire officials do not suspect foul play.
