Mildmay Tenants Allowed Back Home

The Grey Bruce Public Health Department is clearing the way for tenants of a county-run housing unit to return home in Mildmay.

An evacuation order was put in place on January 12 after a pipe break in the basement crawlspace mixed with a solution believed to be creosote. The order was in place for over a week.

On Monday, the Grey Bruce Public Health Department completed their follow up inspection and review of air quality and product residue in the basement. Bruce County also received notification that potable water is present and available for all units.

“The county has been very appreciative of the understanding from the tenants. This has been a challenging issue to get resolved. I wish to reiterate again how pleased I am of the county staff and their diligence in resolving this the issue,” says Bruce County Warden Paul Eagleson.

The completion of an in-depth review for educational purposes and continuous improvement will be finalized in the coming weeks.

The restoration firm will stay at the complex over the next few days to continue to further the air exchange throughout the building.
