Flooding And Erosion Possible Along Lake Huron Shore

The weather system taking aim at the local region has also prompted the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities to warn of potential flooding and erosion along the Lake Huron Shoreline.

Heavier snowfall is expected Monday night and then a cold front will move through on Tuesday accompanied by strong winds and a sharp drop in temperature.

A gale warning is in effect for southern Lake Huron. The marine forecast is showing the potential for strong northwest winds on Tuesday. Maximum sustained wind speeds of 40-50 km/hr with possible gusts over 70 km/hr are forecast before diminishing in the evening.

The winds and above average water levels on Lake Huron will mean higher than normal waves.

That could lead to minor flooding of low-lying coastal areas, as well as increased risk of erosion to lakeshore bluffs.
