$3.5 Million Helps Midwestern Ontario Hospitals Reduce Carbon Footprint

Funding allocations to local hospitals will help the facilities reduce their carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency. The Climate Change Action Plan uses proceeds from Ontario's carbon market to modernize public institutions. Hospitals in midwestern Ontario will share $3.5 million in funding. Stratford General will use $2.08 million to replace the roof, while Seaforth Community Hospital will use $180,000. for new lighting fixtures. Grey Bruce Health in Southampton will spend over $492,000. on distribution systems. St. Marys Memorial is receiving $411,000. for a roof replacement. Hanover and District Hospital gets $48,000. for new doors. South Huron will receive nearly $113,000. and Wingham Hospital is using $25,000. for lighting and other projects. Meaford Hospital is getting $26,000. and Listowel Hospital receives $25,000. for various upgrades. Ontario claims that 180 projects at 98 Ontario hospitals will cut five megatons of carbon dioxide gas emissions by 2050. It also calculates a total cost savings of over $60 million a year. St. Mary's General in Kitchener is getting over $192,000 for lighting.
