Driver Charged After Hitting Owen Sound Harbour Wall

A driver is facing charges after striking the Owen Sound harbour wall with his vehicle.

Owen Sound Police say it happened around 8am Saturday. Officers responded to a call at 17th St E and 1st Ave E and discovered a 2012 Dodge Journey with its airbags deployed and significant damage to its front end and passenger side.

The driver was found asleep in the vehicle and was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He has been in police custody since.

27-year-old Jason Malcolm is charged with operating while impaired, failure to provide a breath sample, failure to comply with condition of OIC undertaking, and five other offences under the Provincial Offences Act.

Malcolm had been released by police at an earlier date with respect to a criminal charge and was expected to meet certain conditions. It was determined he was not abiding by one of those conditions.

He is expected to appear by way of audio before a bail court in London Sunday.

Police say with people still fishing at the harbour wall, it was fortunate that no one was present at the time of the incident.
