Huron Public Health Prepares For Legalization Of Pot

A Public Health promoter with the Huron County Health Unit says they're taking a wait and see approach towards the legalization of marijuana.

Laura Edgar says they're not anticipating any particular problems. She says they already have staff who work in substance and abuse prevention, which includes many areas of substance like cannabis, alcohol and other drugs, so they'll continue to do that.

However, Edgar says one concern they do have is road safety and they've spent the last year planning a conference in London with the other health units in Southwestern Ontario.

“Something we've been working on all year is planning a conference with the other health units in Southwestern Ontario, as well as it's in partnership with the Arrive Alive and Drive Sober," she says.  "We're planning a conference called On the Road to Cannabis Legalization – A Joint Effort.”
