Wiarton Willie the iconic prognosticating groundhog has passed away after serving the community and the province every Groundhog Day for 13 years.
Most wild groundhogs only live to be about 4 years old.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will hold a memorial for Willie Saturday, September 30 at 11am in Bluewater Park in Wiarton.
A funeral procession will travel through the park to honour Willie at a statue of his likeness.
Willie's 2-year-old understudy, Wee Willie, will assume the prognosticating duties.
