Witnesses Sought in Owen Sound Arson Fires

The Owen Sound Police Service are seeking witnesses in connection with a series of arson fires.

At least five fires in the downtown area were reported between 1am and 7am Friday. The Owen Sound Fire Department and the Inter-Township Fire Department were called to handle the fires and it was determined that each of them were arson.

Owen Sound Police have released two still photos and a video taken from surveillance cameras in an area not far from where the first two fires were set Friday morning. According to the time stamp on the photos, the images were captured around 1:15am, and the first two fires were set before 1:30am.

Police want to make clear that the man and woman seen in the photos are not suspects or persons of interest. Investigators feel that the couple may be able to provide information in connection with the fires and are urging them to come forward.

The first two fires were set on the porch of a house on 3rd Ave E and in a dumpster a block away. Two more fires were set on nearby properties on 2nd Ave E around 4:15am Friday, and a fire was reported around 6:30am in a commercial-residential block on 2nd Ave E.

Police say if anyone recognizes the couple in the photos to ask them to contact police. Anyone with additional information on these fires should call Owen Sound Police at (519) 376-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477).
