Numerous Charges Laid After Goderich Traffic Stop

A 28-year-old man is facing almost two dozen charges after a traffic stop in Goderich.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Tuesday around 1:10pm, an officer spotted a black Ford Fusion parked on Bruce St. E, which turned out to be an overdue rental vehicle and was considered stolen.  The officer watched a man enter the vehicle and begin to drive toward Cambria Rd.  At 2:26pm, police conducted a traffic stop and pulled the vehicle over.

The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested. After being evaluated by an expert at the Huron OPP Detachment, it was determined that the driver was impaired by a drug.

Following a search of the vehicle, police seized methamphetamine, cocaine, an expandable baton, throwing knives, a pellet gun, a replica revolver, and stolen property consisting of cheques and mail.

As a result, Kyle Urgel, 28, of no fixed address has been charged with the following offences:

  • Driving while impaired by drug
  • Two counts of driving while disqualified
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Six counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of Schedule I substances (Methamphetamine & Cocaine)
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
  • Two counts of possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
  • Three counts of failing to comply with a probation order
  • Driving while under suspension
Urgel remains in custody with a video court appearance scheduled for Thursday in Goderich.
