Crime Down In Grey County

Meaford council has received some good news from the new commander of the Grey County OPP.

Inspector Martin Murray told council on Monday, the number of violent crimes committed in Grey County over the first six months of this year was down slightly from the same period in 2016.

Violent crimes include assault, sexual assault, robbery and uttering threats.

During the first six months of 2017, officers and constables of the Grey County detachment investigated 38 of these violent crimes. This was a slight decrease from 43 such crimes investigated during the same period of 2016.

Inspector Martin next reported crimes against property were also down during the first half of this year from 2016. These crimes include arson, break-enter, thefts from homes, thefts from vehicles, forgery and other forms of fraud.

During the first six months of this year, OPP personnel investigated 76 crimes involving property, a 66% drop from the 115 cases of crimes against property investigated during the same six month period of last year.

The number of other Criminal Code violations such as indecent acts, bail violations and injuring or killing domestic animals and pets remained about the same for this year to date and 2016.
