North Perth is working with Perth County OPP and Trillium Mutual Insurance to reduce auto thefts.
in 2016 Perth County OPP responded to 67 separate incidents of auto thefts and recovered stolen motor vehicles in North Perth.
Officers spent over 800 hours investigating the incidents, and in over 95% of cases, the keys were left in the vehicles that were taken.
Another 563 hours were spent on investigating other thefts in North Perth.
The extra policing costs directly affect the North Perth tax levy, and insurance costs.
Victims can decrease the incidents of theft by locking their vehicles and removing the keys.
They can also report unusual activity in the neighbourhood to police.
