Owen Sound Names 2017 Senior Of The Year

The City of Owen Sound has selected Elinor Gingrich as the 2017 Senior of the Year.

She has volunteered for 50 years for the Owen Sound Comm-R-Ettes, along with the Jaycettes, CNIB, The MS Society and The District Health Council.

She also received the Ontario Trillium Award for Community Service.

Fellow Comm-R-Ettes member, Donna Doherty, calls Gingrich a tireless worker and active member who is instrumental in recruiting new members.

The award coincides with Ontario Seniors Month.

Gingrich will be honored by Mayor Boddy and Owen Sound Council prior to this evening's council session at the Bayshore Community Centre.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community,” says Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy. “Elinor has given her expertise, her commitment and most valuable of all – her time to many organizations. Fifty years with the Owen Sound Comm-R-Ettes is quite impressive and admirable.”
