Rock Thrown At Police Officer In Bluewater

A Bluewater man is facing multiple charges after a large rock was thrown at a police officer following a traffic stop.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Wednesday around 3:21pm, a Kubota utility vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign on Short Horn Rd. near Airport Line in Bluewater, prompting an officer to pull the driver over.  The driver of the vehicle initially failed to stop for police, but the officer was able to pull up alongside the driver and got him to pull over.

Police say the driver yelled at the officer after being pulled over and was issued a ticket for disobeying the stop sign. The driver then picked up a large rock and held it threateningly towards the officer, who ordered the man to drop it.  Instead, the man threw the rock, which struck the officer's upper body.

Police used a Taser to subdue to the driver and place him under arrest.  The officer was then treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A 67-year-year old man from Bluewater is now charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, disobeying a stop sign, failing to surrender a driver's licence, failing to surrender a permit and failing to surrender an insurance card.  He has since been released with a future court date.
