A new poll shows 85% of residents in Bruce, Huron and Grey Counties support the Bruce Power Life Extension Program.
That's an increase of 6% from 2014.
The program includes major component replacement projects on Units 3 - 8 between 2020 and 2036.
Of those who support the project, 20% are in favour of the job creation component, 10% think it's necessary, 8% like nuclear power, and 7% say nuclear is clean power, among other reasons.
The long-term agreement signed with the Independent Electricity System Operator in 2015 will see six Bruce Power units operate through to 2064.
Bruce Power will provide about 30% of Ontario's electricity needs for decades.
The program will create 22,000 direct and indirect jobs, and about $4-billion in annual economic investment in Ontario.
93% of respondents think Bruce Power operates safely, and 90% have confidence in the security measures at Bruce Power. 92% think Bruce Power has a positive influence in the community.
