CMHA Food Forest Growing In Owen Sound

The Canadian Mental Health Association's Food Forest at St. George's Park has a new solar food dryer built by students at Owen Sound District Secondary School.

The dryer was designed tested and modified over two decades at the Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

Wood Technology students in Owen Sound then modified the design to suit the city's latitude, and incorporated some of their own ideas into the project.

It will be used to dry herbs for seasonings and teas, and dry fruit as the shrubs and trees mature.

The Food Forest received generous support after winning the 2016 National Aviva Community Fund Community Resilience award.

The whole community can help grow nourishing food in a safe environment . The Food Forest was created to be a play for learning, teaching, connecting and giving back through food sharing.
