South Bruce OPP Warn Residents To Beware Of Bears

South Bruce OPP are warning residents to take precautions as hungry black bears emerge from hibernation.

Police say the potential for human-bear conflict increases when little natural food is available for the bears.

The animals will search for other sources, and may be attracted to garbage cans, dirty barbecues and bird feeders.

Residents should ensure waste containers have tight fitting lids.

Bird feeders should be put away, and grills cleaned after each use, including the grease trap.

If the bear is exhibiting threatening and aggressive behaviour, you can call 911 or police.

For non-emergencies, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry operates the toll-free, 24/7 Bear Reporting Line (1-866-514-2327) and the Bear Wise website to provide the public with information and advice.
