Huron County has announced funding of $400,000 to help landowners protect water quality in streams, rivers and Lake Huron through the Huron Clean Water Project.
Huron County Planner Susanna Reid says over 2,200 projects have been completed since the program was launched in 2005.
Those projects include the planting of more than 700 acres of trees, fencing cattle out of streams and decomissioning liquid manure storages.
Reid says 345 projects were completed last year and about 300 the previous year.
Reid says the program provides up to 50% funding to landowners and Huron County is recognized as a leader in Clean Water projects.
Reid adds one of the most popular projects over the last few years has been cover crops and the program provides funding for three species up to ten dollars an acre to a maximum of ten acres.
Property owners looking for help with a project on their property should contact either the Ausable Bayfield or Maitland Valley Conservation Authority.
