Brockton Reviews Walkerton Five-Year Plan

Brockton Council had a review for their Walkerton five-year plan last night.

Brockton County Planner David Smith says the changes recommended are minor, but look at the downtown area in particular.

“We took a look at the downtown Walkerton area, in particular part of a land use designation they call Historic Walkerton, which figures into the major part of the downtown area, and policies to be changed in that particular area to make it more flexible for business owners,” he says.

Other amendments include changes to flood fringe policy, where businesses are unable to store hazardous materials, like oil, paint, or cleaners, in large quantities near flood fringe areas.

Smith says the municipality is trying to walk the line between environmental safety and ease for businesses downtown.
