Canadian Environment Agency Says OPG Report Isn't Good Enough

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency says Ontario Power Generation needs to submit another report about a proposed deep geologic repository near the Bruce Power nuclear site.

The CEAA outlines its reasons in a 17-page report highlighting the points of alternate locations, cumulative environmental effects and mitigation measures.

Under the section of "alternate locations," there are 15 points that the CEAA wants more clarification on, including the environment, transportation and the cost to transport waste.

OPG has insisted the Bruce nuclear site is the best location, and moving the low and intermediate waste would be cost-prohibitive and more dangerous.

In a summary, the CEAA is asking OPG to submit an anticipated timeline for submissions to answer the new information requests.

The report can be viewed here.
