Science Fair In Owen Sound

Budding young scientists crowded the Lumley Bayshore in Owen Sound Wednesday for the annual Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair.

The senior division featured 205 students in Grades 7 to 12 displaying their science projects.

Sophia Cottrill is in Grade 8 at Sullivan Community School. Last year her project won Canada wide gold so she's going to the international science fair in Los Angeles next month.

She says science is her life and love.

"The ability to share your ideas with other children your age and also to feel like you're making a difference in the world by doing something that you love," is how Sophia puts her love of science.

Bethany Gunn is in Grade 8 at St Dominic Savio School in Owen Sound. Her project this year is on hockey and how trainers can assess players' skills.

"I like to really explain and really teach someone about something I'm really interested in. It really gives you that feeling of fun I guess," says Bethany.

About 70 volunteer judges assess the science projects.

The junior Bluewater Science and Technology Fair is on next week.
