New North Huron Fire Chief Ready To Share Ideas

The position of Fire Chief has officially been filled in North Huron.

Retiring Chief David Sparling will be replaced by Ryan Ladner on April 1.

Ladner, who grew up in Hillsburgh and currently serves on the Erin fire department, says it’s great to serve in an environment he’s familiar with.

“Even this town hall setting is very familiar to me, and the tone of the council meeting is very familiar to me as well, like when I did presentations back in my home community,” says Ladner.

He is excited to work with the Emergency Services Training Centre, and he outlined some goals for the centre after his introduction to council Monday night.

“We’re looking at basically revamping the course calendar. Right now, we’re only at 1/5 the max capacity for teaching days. So we’re looking at, as the years go on, increasing that percentage, bring more firefighter programs to the facility, and many other specialized programs,” says Ladner.

Among his previous duties, Ladner held positions in Erin, Mississauga, and as a Humber College instructor.
