ALUS Rejected In Huron And North Perth

The general manager of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority says it doesn't look like a proposal to bring Alternative Land Use Services programs to Huron County and North Perth will go ahead.

Phil Beard says the conservation authority ran into problems with structuring. It would require a separate committee and separate co-ordinator rather than funnel the money through the Huron Clean Water Project or the Middle Maitland Headwaters Restoration Project.

Beard says they felt that would be a much more efficient and effective way of utilizing the funds, but the ALUS representatives were not willing to consider that approach.

Beard reported back to the MVCA board that the proposal has been turned down in Huron, and will likely also be rejected in North Perth.

Beard explains the ALUS funding would have helped them provide money to landowners to take floodplain land out of production and put it back into permanent hay or forest cover.
