UPDATE: Trial Delayed For Durham Area Raw Milk Advocate

Five days have been set aside for raw milk advocate Michael Schmidt's trial in Walkerton court this week, but the trial has been delayed until Thursday due to an illness.

Schmidt was charged with obstruction of justice after a standoff with provincial officials at his farm near Durham in October 2015.

Police and staff from the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs arrived at the farm October 2.

A large crowd of Schmidt supporters showed up and the raid was called off.

Schmidt and other farm members tried to block officials who began removing items from the property.

Schmidt wonders why some people were charged and others weren’t when there were so many people there demonstrating against the raid.

Schmidt has been fighting to legalize raw milk for two decades.

The trial is expected to last five days.
