Unlicensed Tattoo Parlour In Owen Sound Poses Disease Risk

The Grey Bruce Health Unit says an unlicensed tattoo and piercing business in Owen Sound poses a potential communicable disease risk.

A joint investigation with the City of Owen Sound By Law Enforcement department found SA Tattooing and Piercing has operated the business at 360 8th St. E since around November of last year.

Public health was unaware of the existence of the business and could not carry out inspections to ensure adequate infection control. So the Grey Bruce Health Unit cannot rule out the possibility that patrons may have been exposed to blood-borne infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

Persons who received tattoos or piercing services from the business should talk to their doctor about the need for blood testing.

“This situation reinforces the importance of seeking out legitimate, inspected businesses for tattoo and body piercing services,” says Dr. Christine Kennedy, medical officer of health.
