Maitland Valley Waterways Could Overflow

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority has issued a water safety statement due to the warm temperatures and rain in the forecast.

The MVCA says the mild weather will diminish what is left of the snowpack, which is equal to about 20 mm of water in parts of the watershed.

Plus, between 15-20 mm of rain is expected to fall over the next few days. Monitoring also shows soil water content is nearing ground saturation.

Although significant flooding is not expected, levels in streams and rivers may reach or exceed bank-full, resulting in minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses which are hazardous due to slippery unstable banks, and cold water temperatures.
