Owen Sound Cultural Award Winners Announced

Eight groups and individuals in Owen Sound were recognized as winners of the Owen Sound Cultural Awards.

They were noted for their contribution to the cultural vibrancy of the city.

Community organizer, activist and musician Kee-May Ip was given the Cultural Catalyst Award. It was a surprise to her when she won.

"I've only been living in Owen Sound for six years, this is my seventh year and I haven't done as much as the other nominees so it's a surprise," said Yip.

The Cultural Heritage Award was given to the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre for its work restoring the Marine and Rail Museum.

Jan Chamberlain accepted the award on behalf of all the people involved.

"We're actually overwhelmed because last year we got provincial recognition and we got county recognition from the county historical society and now from Owen Sound. That is pretty amazing," said Chamberlain.

The Owen Sound Cultural Awards were handed out at a ceremony in the city attended by about 100 people.
