UPDATE: Snow Squall Warning in Effect

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for the following areas:

  • Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory
  • Hanover - Dundalk - Southern Grey County
  • Owen Sound - Blue Mountains - Northern Grey County
  • Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - Southern Bruce County
  • Wingham - Blyth - Northern Huron County
  • Mount Forest - Arthur - Northern Wellington County
Very strong northwest winds have developed this evening giving significant blowing snow and very poor visibilities near Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

Environment Canada says additional local snowfall accumulations of up to 15 cm are likely by Monday morning. The bigger threat however will be blowing snow as a result of northwest winds gusting to 70 km/h giving near whiteout conditions at times.

The winds are expected to slowly diminish overnight. The snow squall activity should taper off later Monday morning as a ridge of high pressure builds in.

The winter weather travel advisory that was in effect is being replaced by the snow squall warning as conditions have deteriorated more than previously expected.

Road closures are possible and thousands across the region have been without power due to high winds and blowing snow.  Travel is discouraged in the area, but if you must go out, slow down, give yourself a lot of extra time, and always be prepared to stop.
