Man Suffers Critical Injuries In Kincardine Fire

One resident is recovering from serious burns after fire destroyed a family home in Kincardine

Kincardine Fire Chief Kent Padfield says firefighters were called to the property on Southline at about 3:30pm Friday afternoon. He says the farmhouse was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived, and the structure was ultimately destroyed.

"We later found out that there were two occupants in the house They had already gone to hospital before our arrival. One person was injured enough to require transfer to a hospital in Hamilton," says Padfield.

He says the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office was contacted and an investigator attended the scene.

Family friend Melissa Klerks says Derrick Comstock was severely burned saving his son.

The child was treated in hospital and released. Comstock is being treated at the Hamilton Burn Unit, where he was last listed in critical condition.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family. The page says Comstock is recovering from his first surgery, which went well.

The page has raised $1,550 for the family.

Klerks says the four adults and three children who lived in the house lost everything.
