Meaford Scarecrows Celebrate Sesquicentennial

Meaford’s famous Scarecrows will be joining with other Canadians in celebrating the nation’s 150th anniversary this year.

Head scarecrow Marilyn Morris says the Scarecrow Invasion executive has voted to adopt "Scarecrows join other Canadians in celebrating this nation’s Sesquicentennial" as this year’s theme.

Beginning this spring, scarecrow volunteers start assembling the hundreds of scarecrows needed for the invasion.

Volunteers will dress up the scarecrows as pioneers, lumberjacks, fur traders, hockey players, astronauts, UN peacekeepers, the Fathers of Confederations and others who helped form Canada.

In September, volunteers will set up the many scarecrow on display throughout Meaford.

It’s all for the Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival on Friday, September 29.
